Baylor ITS Urges Caution In Response to Windows 11

On October 5, Microsoft officially released Windows 11 for download and installation. Baylor ITS is currently testing this next-generation Windows operating system to ensure that it is compatible with university systems and software. Until our testing is complete, Windows 11 will not be available for faculty and staff using Baylor-owned, Windows-based computers. Please do not use workarounds to install Windows 11 on your primary Windows-based device.

In addition, we urge caution in upgrading to Windows 11 on your personal devices. Windows 11 will not run on older processor models and if you upgrade too soon, many of your software applications may be incompatible or require an upgrade in order to work in the new environment.

Windows 10 will continue to be supported and updated by Microsoft for several years and will remain the university's standard Windows operating system version. Once Baylor ITS can ensure that critical campus software runs properly in the Windows 11 environment, then it will be available for installation on compatible devices.
